The ultimate effort

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzeabp_pescara-0-3-napoli-highlights-27-04-2013_sport?search_algo=2#.UYGveKLU-SqAs expected by everyone, the match Pescara vs Napoli was dominated by the visitors who are very close to gain access to the next Champions LeagueWalter Mazzarri made four changing to Napoli side. Morgan De Sanctis restored in goal, Hugo Campagnaro took his usual spot on the right on the defence line, Ilner brought in for the suspended Valon Behrami, and Insigne to replace Edinson Cavani, who also was out for one match ban. After a good start of Pescara, Napoli took control of the game and pushed the hosts in their own half. On 15′ Napoli took the lead, but the goal scored by Insigne was ruled out by the linesman, as Insigne was in offside. Napoli kept the pressure up and nearly found the lead with Marek Hamsik first and Lorenzo Insigne later, but Ivan Pelizzoli denied on both the occasions. Napoli then, went close to score on several occasion, but  Pelizzoli  always managed to foil Napoli attack. The second half couldn’t start any better for Napoli. The visitors found the lead with Gokhan Inler whose shot was from outside the box was deflected by a Pescara defender. The goal gave Napoli extra strength and the confidence to double the lead. Pescara, on the other hand, tried to find the equalizer and went very close on one occasion with Giuseppe Sculli, but De Sanctis denied. On the counter attack Napoli doubles the lead. Blerim Dzemaili gave a magnificent ball to Goran Pandev, who freed himself with a great first touch from Marco Capuano and scored his fourth goal in six matches. Napoli then tried to shut the match down passing the ball around to waste time. Substitute Pablo Armero went very close to score his first goal with Napoli, but his powerful shot was saved by Mattia Perin, who replaced Pelizzoli after he suffered a groin strain and couldn’t continue. On 82 minute Napoli scored the third goal. Insigne served Pablo Armero who then touched to Blerim Dzemaili whose shot left Perin stunned. With three goal lead, Napoli just passed the ball around until the final whistle. A comfortable win for Napoli against the last in the standing. Juventus had to postpone the celebration for the Scudetto by one week at least…

Pescara has been overrun by Neapolitans!

Pescara’s manager Bucchi, needs to do otherwise of Quintero, Weiss, D’agostino, Cascione and Kroldrup due to injury. The defending line ahead of Pelizzoli should be Cosic and Capuano centre back with Zanon and Balzano on the sides. At midfield Togni and Rizzo will have the difficult task to protect the defenders from Partenopei’s attackers. The main striker should be Sforzini, supported by Caprari, Celik and Sculli. Napoli instead, can count on Campagnaro and De Sanctis, who  back in the squad after serving one match ban. Campagnaro though, will probabily take one more week rest to play at his best versus Intermilan next week. Napoli’s line up should be De Sanctis in goal, Cannavaro central back with Gamberini on the right and Britos on the left. At midfield Ilner will take Behrami spot just ahead the defenders, with Dzemaili and Hamsik helping out the strikers. On the wings there should be Maggio on the right and Armero on the left. Cavani is facing a match ban and probably Pandev too will take a week rest, therefore Insigne should be Calaio’s partner at the front. Mazzari knows that this match is as difficult as the last one. The main goal is almost achieved and would be a shame to ruin everything now. It is also an important opportunity for some players to regain Mazzarri’s trust. Ilner  is one of them. He used to be always in the lineup, but he only had played 16′ in the last five games, and  Calaio’, who aslo wants to showto Mazzarri that he can count on him as well.

The analysis

To the last breath… Napoli grabs three important points at the end of injury time. The match, just like Mazzarri said at the press conference,  was a tough one. Cagliari started with a 4 3 3 with Thiago Riberio and Ibarbo wide to open up Napoli defense. The first 15′ aren’t particularly exiting apart from a series of spectacular passes from Hamsik and  Pandev but the Macedonian shoot goes out. Then, Cagliari takes the lead. Ibarbo regains the ball just outside the box and shoots with a powerful shoot gives Cagliari the lead. Napoli tries to find the equalizer and goes quite close with Cavani and Dzemaili, but with no luck. On the other hand Cagliari is very dangerous with its counter attack. At the end of the first half, Napoli claims a penalty for a foul on Cavani, but the referee has a different opinion and warns Cavani. Only after two minutes in the second half Napoli equalizes. Zuniga from a free kick gives the ball to Hamsik, whose shoot is deflected by Astori and goes in the net. The ref wasn’t entirely sure who deflected the ball as Cavani was offside and after almost two minutes talking with the penalty area ref awarded the goal. Napoli finds the confidence again and impelled by the supporters takes the lead with Cavani. The joy only lasts 7′ as Cagliari finds the equalizer with a spectacular goal of Sau. Mazzarri puts in another striker, Insigne, who takes the place of Dzemaili, a midfielder, to keep Cagliari under pressure. Both sides go close to score again but is Napoli that finds the victory with Insigne with a great shoot from outside the penalty area, at the last breath of the match… The Champions League is at Mazzarri’s fingertips as Ac Milan had been beaten by Juventus tonight. Seven points clear on Ac Milan with five matches to go. We couldn’t have hoped for a better Sunday evening…

Napoli Cagliari lines up

int_130329_mazzarri_internationalbreakA vital match will be played tomorrow at San Paolo. Napoli will face Cagliari, which  is one of the best formation at the moment. Napoli, who can’t play De Sanctis and Campagnaro, due to a match ban, will start the game with Rosati in the goal, Gamberini on the right with Cannavaro centre back and Britos on the left. At midfield, Behrami confirmed just before the defense, with Zuniga and Maggio on the wings, and Dzemaili alongside Hamsik. Pandev, as usual, will support Cavani on the front line. Considering Maggio’s performance against Ac Milan, Mazzarri could play Zuniga on the right wing and Armero on the left wing to start with. We shouldn’t expect any other kind of surprise, even though during the past week he tried a line of 4 defenders with Rolando next to Cannavaro with Zuniga full back and Armero few meters ahead. Cagliari also has two key players facing a match ban, Conti and Pinilla. Cagliari’s line up should be Agazzi in goal with Avelar and Perico on the sides and Astori (Napoli’s target for the next signing campaign together with Nainggolan) and Rossettini as central back. At midfield Nainggolan as play maker supported on the wings by Ekdal and Dessena. Thiago Ribeiro should play between the two lines supporting Sau and Ibarbo at the front line. Cagliari’s main objective has already been achieved as they are tenth on the table. This is exactly what is worrying Mazzarri who thinks that they can play an outstanding match as the relegation zone is far behind.

The future is now

With the championship almost over, the DS Bigon, with the scouting team is planning the future. It seems that Mazzarri will be Napoli’s manager next year too while we can’t say the same for Cavani. Bigon and his team are putting both plans ready: The Plan A is with Cavani still in the squad and the Plan B without Cavani. If Cavani stays, Bigon will have a budget of 40 million of Euro to reinforce the midfield and the defence. We believe the defence is where the majority of the investments is needed if Napoli wants to compete for the Scudetto next year especially after Campagnaro’s departure. Rolando had only few opportunity to show his skills and quite unlikely will be confirmed. Diakite’ was very close to sign his contract but the negotiation had been interrupted suddenly. Astori seems to be another name on Bigon’s list to reinforce the defence. For the midfield  on Mazzarri’s wishlist there are the names of Nainggolan (Cagliari), Sandro (Tottenham) and Hernanes (Lazio) Another name on the list is Fernando (Gremio) but Mazzari is skeptical. With Cavani still leading the strikers, the DS will try to signing a decent sub to let the Matador rest when is needed. Floccari would be perfect for this role. The budget for the Plan B ( without Cavani) would be 100 millions of Euro the majority of which will be spent to reinforce the attackers. The names on Bigon’s list to replace Cavani are Damiao, but he will need to face stiff competition from Tottenham, Muriel (Udinese) who didn’t have a great season, Osvaldo (Roma) who’s Mazzarri’s favorite. We believe that would be very tough to replace Cavani, but Napoli will be competitive even in the case of his departure. Alexis Sanchez would be the Top Player to fill the gap that  Cavani would leave, but he doesn’t seem to be willing to leave Barca. A player that would make everyone happy would be Jovetic but would be very difficult to negotiate with Fiorentina.

The analysis

It was like watching two different games. The first half, the one we enjoyed the most, was packed with occasions from both sides. The second half instead was nervous and with very little to talk about. Ac Milan had a great start as approached the  match with the right mentality and put Napoli under pressure from very early stages. In one occasion went also very, very close to score with Boateng, whose shot was deflected by Cannavaro but De Sanctis was very reactive and saved. Ac Milan kept the control of the game and finally finds the goal with Flamini who regained  possession ot the ball just outside the penalty area and puts the football in the bottom corner on the left of De Sanctis. Napoli reacts soon after and scores the equalizer just after 3 minutes with Pandev who found the back of the net after three fast passes. At this point Napoli started to play better and putting Ac Milan under pressure. Napoli nearly scores again with Cavani who picked a long ball and tried to chip Abbiati, but the keeper managed to deflect with his fingers saving the goal. In the second half  the only thing to talk about was Flamini’s sent off for a bad foul on Zuniga at 20 minutes to go. It was very important to keep Ac Milan away, but if Napoli had more confidence, we could have taken the three points and securing the Champions League. Napoli has another opportunity on Sunday to make the gap bigger as they will host Cagliari wile Ac Milan will play Juventus away.

The big match

Quite likely Napoli starting 11 will be the same of the last match against Genoa. The only change that will take place is Zuniga on the left wing instead of Armero despite his last performance. In the goal there should be De Sanctis, to his left Britos, with the Capitan Cannavaro central and Campagnaro on the right. At midfield Dzemaili will be again Behrami’s partner with Maggio and the already mentioned Zuniga on the wings. Hamsik and Pandev will support Cavani who leads Napoli attacker as usual. Ac Milan, are playing without Balotelli as he was suspended for three games, should play the 4 3 3 with Pazzini leading the strikers supported by El Shaarawy and Niang. At midfield with Montolivo will play Boateng and MuntariThe defenders line will be central back Mexes and Zapata with Abate on the right and De Sciglio on the left with Abbiati in goal. A very offensive formation for Ac Milan. They need a victory to reduce the gap with Napoli to gain the direct access to the Champions. If Napoli wins (Last time was in 1986) they will go 7 points clear ahead securing the second place.
